Pizzagirl aka Liam Brown brings with him that sense of immediate nostalgia found only at the tale end of an 88 mile per hour flash forward; the DeLorean door has opened into our 2018!

With him comes a crush on Jennifer Grey, a six track EP – an Extended Play and the instruction ‘For best results listen in 1987 at night’. This should be no problem. Tune in to his latest release of electronica pop and you will find yourself within the sonic ley lines of 80s teenage bedrooms at dusk.

When a protagonist appears in our present moment from another place in the space time continuum they are usually here to restore equilibrium – Liam has made a special time slip for Going Through The Emotions complete with his trademark humour to tell us about self-belief, friendship and what’s been cooking down at the Beatzzeria…

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m currently hibernating in my lil’ bedroom beat zone (The Beatzzeria) crafting some more fresh melodies ready for possibly another Extended Play in the near future???!! I’m also working on trying to soak in as much of the killer sun that has been floating over Liverpool lately! x

What has been your biggest life challenge so far and what did you do to overcome it?

I think in terms of being creative, a big problem I’ve had is probably having more belief in my own abilities, I think I definitely have some degree of imposter syndrome because I do feel like most of (if not all) of the nice words said to me about my music etc. is often ill founded and that I’m not that worthy of the praise in real life. I think I’m learning as I flop into the strange world of adulthood, that having that mindset is quite toxic and maybe I should be a bit more confident in my music making abilities and maybe I am just born to SHRED!

What would constitute a ‘perfect’ day for you?

A perfect day for me consists of waking up at a reasonably early time without any tired eye pain, having a delish’ breakfast and going out with my nearest and dearest pals/family and being 100% comfortable in the environment I’m in mentally/physically. Maybe rounded off with a nice slice at a cheap price and a few laughs n’ jokes sprinkled in for some SPICE!

What are you listening to, reading and watching at the moment?

I’m conscious all the time that I should be taking in a lot more media that I really am, but I’m currently listening to a lot of Janet Jackson and Clairo as of late. I’m a big fan of fierce female pop women and they all have some sweet tunes on their respective Spotifys! I’m not the biggest reader of all time, so it’s usually just a clickbait article online when i’m in bed or on the toilet that I’m mostly invested in! AND I’m also watching a lot of Queer Eye on Netflix! I’m deeply emotionally invested in the fab five and would love to get a tasty makeover by my boys so stay tuned for an episode where I get beautified by my dream team!

For what in your life do you feel most grateful?

I’m for sure most grateful for having a lovely group of friends and family around me who are extra supportive of what I’m doing, especially my Mum as she takes a lot of the pics of me and she never questions my life choices to be a music man/girl! Also having a killer label and management behind me who are 100% passionate about music in general is really important for me to be able to do music with extra comfort!!

Complete this sentence: “Ace mental health for me means…”

… feeling happy and content in your own body and brain, and also being the coolest and most you version of you possible without worrying about what anyone else thinks! xx

What do you eat to stay healthy?

I try and stay as active as possible as often as I can, but sometimes the shadow of cheesy chips hangs in the corner of my mind and I do often give in to such a lovely vice. I try to exercise regularly but I always try to leave the house and go on some walks to get my calves ripped and lookin’ fine!

Do you have a daily routine of exercise or do you make it up as you go along?

Usually I just try and get out and about to get the old heart tickin’, but I’m a product of the internet so I have an app that gives me seven minutes a day of workout time which I try to use as often as I can without being too lazy! I’ve been abit complacent with it recently though!

Here at The Mind Map we remember playing football and ‘tag’ – running around the playground everyday and loving it – can you share a similar memory?

I remember being a lil pizzachild and having an unhealthy fond obsession with mr Doctor Who! I have lovely memories of being a young lil boy on a Saturday evening getting excited with my Doctor Who merch (sonic screwdriver & multiple figures) and just being in awe of BBC 1 for airing such killer episodes of David Tennant travelling through time and space! Nothing’s really changed.

What three songs lift your spirits?

I like the song “Miss America” by David Byrne because it’s just a light and fun pop song with a sweet chorus that makes me feel extra nice! Also “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life” from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack also makes me feel gooood and fuels the delusion that me and Jennifer Grey are going to run into the 80s sunset together and dance the night away!
And another tune that I think has a nice lil message is “Going Gets Tough” by The Growlers it gives me a nice positive feeling when I might not be having the coolest day ever!

What is your favourite self-help book, or motivational quote?

Don’t let your dreams be dreams
Yesterday you said tomorrow
So just do it
Make your dreams come true
Just do it
My man Mr Shia LaBeouf

What advice do you offer to friends when they are feeling overwhelmed?

Usually it’s my friends who are handing me the life lessons and giving me the advice, but the rare times I’m in the position to impart some my old wisdom onto them, I usually try to make them laugh and give them the existential reminder that we probably aren’t around for quite a long time so the worry that you might have in the present might not be worth your energy for when your slammin’ and killin’ it in the future!
