A mix of workshop activities, presentations, and group discussions will be used to guide learning on this course. Up to 16 people can participate in sessions at any one time, helping to ensure that the instructor keeps participants safe and supported throughout.
Participants will complete two learning sessions over the one day duration of the course.
Every participant who completes the course will receive:
A number of topics will be explored over the course of each of the four sessions with guidance from the instructor.
The session will begin with a discussion about Mental Health First Aid and the discrimination and stigmas that still surround mental ill health. A number of mental health issues will be explored, including: depression, anxiety disorders, self-harm, psychosis, and eating disorders.
The instructor will outline the early warning signs of mental health and issues surrounding mental health and stress in the workplace. The relationship between alcohol, drugs, and mental health will also be examined.
This session will focus on the application of the Mental Health First Aid action plan. The instructor will outline the five main points of action:
The topic of suicide will also be explored during this session. The session will conclude by examining action planning for using Mental Health First Aid, including recovery and building resources.
