Zigzag Ensemble
This series of workshops allows young musicians to explore their creativity through composition and improvisation inspired by music featured in Birmingham Contemporary Music Group concerts. The ensemble is lead by composer Ben Markland and BCMG musicians are on hand to help guide participants. At the end of each workshop, participants are invited to perform their pieces to family and friends. The ensemble is open to young musicians with experience of playing an instrument, but all ability levels are welcome.
Creative Composing Lab
Need some musical inspiration? Join the Creative Composing Lab at the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group to learn everything you need to know about composing pieces for professional musicians. Composer David Horne will lead participants with expert knowledge, with the group invited to share their work with family and friends at the conclusion of the lab. This lab is also suitable for students working towards a GSCE, A-Level, or BTEC music qualification. Some knowledge of musical notation is required.
