The Vryll Society – Going Through The Emotions

Remembering the PE tracks of our years. Don’t get stuck in the mud.

Peering through the Liverpool clouds to the world below, The Vryll Society are consumed by the exhilarating belief that psychedelic-sounding guitars and atmospheric amps can be transformed into gold. Bring on the cosmic-rock we say.
Lead singer, Michael Ellis speaks to us to us about his journey and how to stay sane in tough times.

Hello Michael, what are you working on at the moment?
I am working on my band’s first album.

What has been your biggest life challenge and what did you do to overcome it?
This album has been unbelievably hard to make financially, but we stuck at it and eventually received a sizable chunk of cash to make it.

What would constitute a ‘perfect’ day for you?
I don’t think it’s possible to have a perfect day, life is up and down. If you can accept that, then every day can be a perfect day.

For what in your life do you feel most grateful?
To be born in the Western world with access to amazing opportunities.

Complete this sentence: “Ace mental health for me means…”
Not clouding my mind with too much useless nonsense.

What do you eat to stay healthy?
Fruit and veg.

If you could wake up tomorrow with a new ability to aid your health what would it be?
Total mastery of my thoughts.

Do you have a daily routine of exercise or do you make it up as you go along?
Meditate, run, swim, meditate.

Here at The Mind Map, we remember playing football and ‘tag’, running around the playground every day and loving it – can you share a similar memory?
My primary school was unbelievable, so many good memories, we were a bit more British Bull Dog or Stuck In The Mud, both of which were absolute quality gear.

Who was your best friend at school? What was the funniest thing they did?
A kid called Ben Curtis. He made some hilarious funny faces. That is probably his finest hour.

Pumps or trainers for PE?
Trainers.

Name your top five best fruits.
Apples, peaches, grapes, strawberries, and blueberries.

What three songs lift your spirits?
Al Stewart – Year Of The Cat
Smokey Robinson – Tracks Of My Tears
Procal Harum – Whiter Shade Of Pale

What is your favourite self-help book or motivational quote?
I’ll do today what others won’t, so tomorrow I can accomplish what others can’t.

What advice do you offer to friends when they are feeling overwhelmed?
Get meditating man!
