Jack Bennett, AKA Grumble Bee is an Alt-rock and acoustic solo artist influenced by acts including Biffy Clyro and Bring me The Horizon. We chatted to Jack about going solo, staying healthy and Mariah Carey.

What has been your biggest life challenge so far and what did you do to overcome it?

It’s only really a personal one for me, and not actually something I would say is worth complaining about – but I have basically had nothing to complain about. One of the best moments was moving from my previous band, to this solo project, which became Grumble Bee.

The transition was awkward and I owed a couple of people some apologies, but ultimately everything turned out so much better than I could ever have imagined.

What would constitute a ‘perfect’ day for you?

Waking up early and having a full day of achieving things! Ticking things of a notes list on my phone maybe!? hah – Starbucks, go for a run, bar maroc pizza. Game changer.

For what in your life do you feel most grateful?

The support from my parents to be able to do whatever I wanted.

Complete this sentence: “Ace mental health for me means…”

Being happy as much as possible.

What do you eat to stay healthy?

It’s not to stay healthy, but I’ve never eaten meat in my life, and three years ago I went fully plant-based and I am in better shape than ever before.

Do you have a daily routine of exercise or do you make it up as you go along?

My routine, when I am not gigging is usually driving to Starbucks with my dad to get an oat latte, and then running a 5k back home at some point, whilst listening to mixes on my in-ears.

Here at The Mind Map we remember playing football and ‘tag’ – running around the playground everyday and loving it – can you share a similar memory?

Probably football or basketball at lunch time in school, would be my best memories of school, surrounded by about 40 people per side and just running around chasing a ball, whilst absolutely useless.

What three songs lift your spirits?

At the minute something like, Allen Stone ‘Unaware’, Zedd with Maren Morris ‘The Middle’, Mariah Carey ‘Fantasy’.

What is your favourite self-help book, or motivational quote?

I can’t remember the last time I sat down and read a book, favouring that over watching some DIY studio stuff on youtube. So I would say anything motivational either comes from video or music.

I usually like to watch studio videos before I go into the studio, to get me up for it! And the same before live gigs, I’ll listen to the sort of stuff above ^ and warm up with that.

What advice do you offer to friends when they are feeling overwhelmed?

I don’t really have any friends who would seek my advice to be honest! But I have had quite a lot of people message/tell me that some of the music things or animal related things I post about, have helped them forget about any problems they might have for a little while.
